When looking for a Laravel admin UI, you get a plethora of options. Nova, Filament, backpack, Voyager, Craftable PRO, Orchid, LaraAdmin, you name it. So… creating the backbone of your next big thing is on the tips of your fingers.

Conceptually, all of them travel down the same road incepted by the ancestor of admin panels, Laravel Nova. Crafted by Taylor Otwell in 2018 it added the CRUD interface to Laravel, which allows for administering database records purely from UI.

Can the value an SMB creates be orchestrated by administering a custom database schema? Where is the critical point in the supporting software to facilitate the creation of value?

Here's the thing: A low level entry into software development makes the development process enjoyable. We can translate this to “make the developer happy.”

The value of the software created is measured by its usability.

Translate this to “makes the user happy” which ultimately “makes your boss happy.”

I write occasionally about system architecture, developer experience, and how complex products stay coherent as they grow.

This is not a marketing newsletter.

It’s a continuation of the thinking behind articles like this one.
